I still say that the best way to create a route map is to photocopy or scan a street map, draw route line on it, and print it out on 8/5x11 paper.  Nothing on the internet can give you a bike route map with street names on a normal sheet of paper.  The problem is that we're not on major roads, and when you zoom out, the street detail, including names disappears.

Fortunately, for most bikers, you just need a set of cues.  But for some reason, nobody's figured out how to take the GPS tracks that we record, upload a GPX (or whatever) to Google Maps, and have the software print out the turn-by-turn.  Since I got the track already on my device, why would I want to upload the map, then have to re-draw the route line manually to get the turn-by-turn?

I'm sure it's more complicated than I think, but you should be able to take the the points on the GPS track, bounce each point up against the routing APIs, and if it results in a turn, bring it back into the cues.
