Description:
Excellent hiking trail in Pinnacles National Monument. The area does not see a lot of use and the scenery is spectacular. The Pinnacles is the partial remnants of the Neenach Volcano that was active 23 million years ago, and that was split by the San Andreas Fault - the other part of the volcano is 195 miles to the southeast. This trail follows a small intermittent creek that flows between huge breccia cliffs. On the return loop, the trail cuts underneath a huge pile of boulders, some as big as tall buildings, that creates a maze-like cave.
